Emily Alford

This cocktail is as sophisticated and smooth as Jay Z rapping in an art gallery, but the addition of fresh orange juice and bitters makes it as fun as a Kanye West Twitter rant about the importance of fresh flowers.

It would have been fine if Max Sanford hadn’t dropped the ball.

But the New Yorker did, just as the blue-uniformed Neal Farren was closing in on him, and he got pinched. The authorities were not amused: It cost Sanford a thousand bucks to get back in the game, and that was during Prohibition, when a buck was actual money.

Lesson: If you’re going to buy a load of rubber baseballs at 55 cents a dozen, hollow them out, fill each with 15 cents worth of mixed booze and sell them as “Baseball Cocktails” on 14th Street for 50 cents a pop, when a cop comes up to see what’s drawing the crowd, for God’s sake keep a tight grip on your product.

There used to be a good deal of overlap between the gents that liked to while away an idle afternoon at the ballgame and the ones that liked to lean against the bar and moisten the mortal clay with a cocktail or three. For a while there, Philadelphia even had a “Gin Cocktail Base Ball Club” (that might just be the edge that the Phillies need).

And yet—despite the best efforts of Mr. Sanford—there is no generally accepted, classic “Baseball Cocktail.” There’s not even a “Babe Ruth Cocktail.” If there were ever a man who didn’t think a drink was something to be avoided, it was The Sultan of Swat (he was famous for putting away a quart of whiskey and ginger ale with his breakfast).

Fortunately, there is one classic with which to toast the baseball season: the Cooperstown Cocktail. It was created at the old Waldorf-Astoria hotel back before Prohibition as a tribute to the sporting types from the famed upstate town who used to drop by when they were in the city. It includes gin, equal parts sweet and dry vermouth, orange bitters and mint leaves, and it’s the refreshment you want before, during or after a nine-inning day out.

You could kill tower soldiers for the assault rifle blueprint.

I found the sticky bomb off georgias body after i capped her ass.

no you get the gun not the recipe

You’re all right. There are specific ways to acquire the assault rifle throughout the story. Leading up to the the final at the church for the reserve. You can acquire exactly two worn assault rifles if you keep your eyes sharp for them leading up to the end. There is simply no way to get the assault rifle blueprints for the rifle, nor the ammo before then. Trust me I’ve experimented and tried. I personally find that saving those two assault rifles for the final battle more theatrical in the story personally. Once you come to your so called “difficult choice” it actually isn’t quite as devastating as you think. The first option is obvious. Flush the comms room and kill Casey. Collect your bounty. As much as you can carry out of there is technically and extraordinary amount of loot for one run. Including the fabled AR and 5.56 blueprints obviously. The other option of being the hero, doesn’t actually screw you as bad a you think. Looting the comms room Is quite rewarding itself. Here’s the real money shot though. The very next run you go out on, make sure you listen to station 47 in the morning and then basically chase down Tower or Reclaimed enforcers labeled on the map. The most it will take you to get both the assault rifle or ammo blueprints is two days if you play it right, but can deffinately happen in one day as well. If it does the same person usually drops both recipes even if you’ve snagged one already

French 75

The French 75 is named for the fast-firing 75 millimeter field gun that was utilized by the French during World War One. Consisting of gin, fresh lemon juice, sugar and Champagne, the drink is a lot friendlier than the name implies.

Like many classic drinks, the French 75’s origin is mired in mystery and debate. According to drinks historian David Wondrich, the recipe first appeared in 1927 at the height of Prohibition in a book called “Here’s How” that was published by a New York humor magazine. The cocktail was soon immortalized in 1930 in the pages of Harry Craddock’s “The Savoy Cocktail Book,” which solidified the French 75’s spread in bars and homes around the world.

How it was invented, however, is less clear. It’s likely that the drink cannot be attributed to one person, and instead, was the simple product of experimentation. Discerning drinkers in the 19th and early 20th centuries were known to combine gin and Champagne, a duo well-suited to sugar and lemons. But when the combination was given the French 75 moniker, its fate was sealed as a classic.

That said, it’s possible that the first French 75s didn’t contain gin at all. Cognac and Champagne were also fast friends, and some recipe books call for cognac in place of gin. This much is certain: Both spirits make an excellent French 75, so mix whichever version you prefer.

Today the French 75 is a fixture in cocktail bars, but it’s also a fan-favorite during brunch. The effervescent drink offers a boozier kick than a Mimosa, while still providing ultimate refreshment before, during and after your eggs Benedict. Whenever you choose to drink the French 75—and whichever spirit you choose as its base—this is one classic you’ll want to rediscover again and again.

Salt, Paprika, Sugar, Garlic, Black Pepper, Red Pepper, Brown Sugar and Onion Flakes

Squeeze Margarine, Brown Sugar, Clover Honey, and Tiger Sauce

Sauce/Glaze: Tomato Sauce, Molasses and Corn Syrup

Johnny Trigg uses well marbled ribs, trimmed to 3.5 inches with excess meat and membrane removed. He uses Rib Tickler Rub and black pepper. Let’s rest 45 minutes before putting on the smoker. I’ve read he sprays/spritzes with apple juice hourly but I’ve never seen him do it. He smokes them meat side up with pecan and cherry at a temp of 275* for approx. 2.5 hrs. Uses Squeeze Parkay Margarine in a wave pattern on the aluminum foil, handful of brown sugar, 3-4 runs clover honey and a 1/2″ wide stripe of Tiger Sauce, then places the ribs meat side down on the wrap mixture and repeats the process on the bone side and adds 1/4 cup apple juice, closes the foil up tightly, wraps with another layer of foil and returns to the smoker for another 1.5 hrs or so. He unwraps and glazes them with a sauce made of tomato sauce, molasses and corn syrup and in the smoker for 1 hr. Re-glazes after he removes from smoker and slices with an electric knife.

Recipe Summary

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (Optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can reduced-fat, reduced-sodium condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can 2% low-fat milk
  • 1 ½ cups meat from rotisserie chicken, skinned and cubed
  • 1 (29 ounce) can mixed vegetables (such as Veg-All®), drained
  • 1 (9 inch) refrigerated pie crust (such as Pillsbury®)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat, and cook and stir the onion with butter until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the flour, salt, and pepper to make a paste. Whisk in the chicken soup and milk, and cook and stir the sauce until smooth and thickened, about 5 minutes. Lightly mix in the cooked chicken and mixed vegetables, and pour the chicken and sauce into a 2-quart deep casserole dish.

Unroll the pie crust, lay it on the casserole dish, and fold and press the edges of the crust down to seal the crust to the dish. Cut several small slits in the crust.

Bake in the preheated oven until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 minutes. Cool 10 minutes before serving.

Mazel Tov Cocktail

This cocktail has been on the menu at DGS Delicatessen in downtown Washington for years, but it became newly popular the day before Nov. 8, 2016, when Scottie Nell Hughes, a Donald Trump surrogate, criticized Hillary Clinton supporter Jay-Z on CNN: “One of his main videos starts out with a crowd throwing mazel tov cocktails at the police,” said Hughes, referencing the “Run This Town” video.

It was a malapropism she meant Molotov cocktails, of course. But Trump opponents, seeking a bit of levity on a tense day, sought out recipes for mazel tov cocktails for their election parties.

Brian Zipin, who created the drink for DGS, was happy to share it with Post readers. “That’s a mitzvah,” he said, when informed the phrase “mazel tov cocktail” was going viral.

Make Ahead: The lavender syrup can be refrigerated for up to a month.

Where to Buy: Culinary dried lavender is available at gourmet kitchen stores such as La Cuisine in Alexandria, and through various online gourmet food purveyors.
